Annual exports of polymer products increase by 23%

Speaking at a press conference on the International Polymer Products Export Promotion Conference in Tehran on Wednesday, Barmak Ghanbarpour said the polymer industry accounts for 73% of the total value of non-oil exports made by the sector. industrialist of the country the previous year. , IRNA reported.

“Iran’s total non-oil exports were $48 billion last year, and the share of polymer industries in total non-oil exports is estimated at 7%,” Ghanbarpour said.

According to the official, currently 8,000 production units are active in this industry which have a total production capacity of 13 million tons.

He noted that the annual import of raw materials for the polymer industry is about five million tons, indicating that there are eight million tons of unused capacity in this industry.

The International Polymer Products Export Promotion Conference will be held in the Iranian calendar month following Mordad (begins July 23) for the second consecutive year with the aim of exploring the issues and challenges of the country’s polymer industries and exchange views on ways to increase exports. .

According to Reza Tofiqi, the secretary of the conference, export-oriented production is the key to the development of industrial units in the polymer industry.

“By learning about new export markets, we also become more active in domestic markets, which will reduce production costs and consumer prices and is a great economic benefit,” Tofiqi said.

The official further mentioned the capacity of the country’s petrochemical industry, saying, “The raw material needed for the polymer industry is supplied, to a large extent, inside the country by domestic petrochemical complexes.”

He pointed out that the International Polymer Products Export Promotion Conference is trying to expand export-oriented investment, saying, “By doing this, we will maintain a significant share of value added in the country’s economy, which which will increase the gross output of the country. and lead to economic development.

Showcasing Iran’s polymer export capabilities and opportunities, identifying new target markets and getting to know the laws and regulations of the mentioned countries are also among the topics explored during the mentioned conference.
