Commissioners will put the finishing touches to a huge budget

President Joe Biden was unable to push through his Build Back Better plan, however, the closer he gets to mid-June, the closer it appears Guilford County Executive Mike Halford, chairman of the County Board of Commissioners Guilford Skip Alston and the Democrats on the Board of Commissioners will get everything he hoped and dreamed of for years.

At no time in this century has there been a county budget so full of freebies for everyone: pay raises for employees, funding for new projects, new cars, new positions in multiple departments, funding generous amounts for non-profit organizations, monies for Guilford County schools – and so on.

If you own property in Guilford County, you will pay most of it. The new spending will be partially covered by an average property tax increase of 14 cents that will come into effect in 2022-2023. The county tax rate will remain the same, but due to the reassessment of all county properties in 2022 and the council’s inability to adjust the rate downward, property owners will really feel it in their future bills. of tax.

The Guilford County Board of Commissioners is expected to pass an amended version of Halford’s colossal budget in mid-June and the council has scheduled a business meeting for Wednesday, June 8 at 3 p.m. in the McAdoo Conference Room on the third floor of the Truist Building at 201 W. Market St. in Greensboro.

The purpose of the working session is “to discuss the proposed budget for the 2022-23 financial year and to conduct any other necessary business”.

The new fiscal year begins July 1, 2022.

The meeting room will be open for in-person public participation.

The meeting will also be broadcast on Zoom.

People can watch and/or listen while visiting, completing webinar registration, selecting the join option in the confirmation email before the meeting begins, and choosing an audio option.

The meeting will also be streamed live on the Guilford County Facebook page.

Copies of the business session agenda will be available for review prior to the start of the meeting at You can contact Deputy Clerk Ariane Webb at [email protected] for answers to your questions.
