ROME — Fiorentina edged past Atalanta for the last Serie A spot in Europe with a 2-0 victory over Juventus on Saturday.

With goals from Alfred Duncan and Nicolás González, Fiorentina secured seventh place and a place in the Europa Conference League.

Atalanta lost at home to Empoli 1-0.

Fiorentina finished seventh and Atalanta eighth, ending the Bergamo side’s run of games in Europe for five consecutive seasons – the last three in the Champions League, including a quarter-final in 2020.

Fiorentina, who won the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1961, had gone five seasons without playing in Europe.

Juventus had already secured a Champions League berth and fourth place.

In his last game for the club, Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini came off at half-time after being bloodied in a collision with Krzysztof Piątek. Chiellini is looking for a new club in Major League Soccer.

United States midfielder Weston McKennie came on for Juventus in the 76th minute, his first appearance since breaking two bones in his left foot in a Champions League game against Villarreal on February 22.

Moreover, Lazio and Hellas Verona drew 3-3 and Bologna beat already relegated Genoa 1-0 with a goal from Musa Barrow.

The Serie A champion will be decided on Sunday – the last day of the season – when leaders AC Milan travel to Sassuolo and defending champions Inter Milan, who are two points adrift, host Sampdoria .
