PARKERSBURG — The comics were announced for the annual Laugh United fundraiser sponsored and organized by the United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley.

The show will take place on April 8 at the Grand Pointe Conference Center in Vienna. Tickets are on sale.

“This is a landmark event for us,” Stacy DeCicco, United Way Alliance, said.

Comedians Jon Reep, Alingon Mitra and Franklin Miller will perform.

“It’s an extraordinary program this year” Decicco said.

Reep, a touring comedian, was the “Hemi guy” on Dodge car ads. He appeared in the movie “In the Storm” and as Raymus, the pot-smoking farmer in “Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay.

Mitra first appeared on television in NBC “Last Comic Standing,” He appeared in the “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “Conan,” “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” and “Adam Devine’s House Party on Comedy Central.”

Miller is from Parkersburg and graduated from Parkersburg South High School and West Virginia University. A former baseball scout who dabbled in comedy, Miller works the comedy circuit at night in New York City.

The night is also special for other reasons, according to DeCicco. United Way’s annual campaign ends on March 31 and the event is when and where the final fundraising total is revealed.

Last year the campaign raised $1.15 million, the third year in a row that a record was set, she said.

“We would like to be able to repeat that again this year”, she said.

Things are tough, however, as the pandemic continues. Decicco said. Currently, the United Way Alliance is about 91% of its goal, she said.

Tickets for the show are on sale now, she said. Sales were strong as soon as the poster was announced, DeCicco said.

“Tickets fly away” DeCicco said. “We are really excited about what this means.”
