“Very informative, and Linda has years of experience and conveys well how to communicate effectively and help our seniors” – Jacklyn Perry Ryan.

The educational book “The SPIRIT massage method for the elderly… Raising the bar” by Linda MacDougall is set to be presented by ReadersMagnet at the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference and Exposition, June 24-27, 2022, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington DC

“The SPIRIT massage method for seniors” is both informative and inspiring, as the author hopes to make readers aware of various often overlooked aspects of care; the importance of knowing and understanding what it means to be an older person, as well as the importance of making a connection and making a real difference in someone’s life.

Caring for the elderly can require many natural skills and abilities. The book emphasizes the relationship between carers and seniors, a relationship based on appreciation for seniors and an educated awareness of aging…

People miss opportunities that can have a significant impact on the lives of others, including their own. Magical moments go unnoticed in the daily grind because they just don’t get enough attention.

This comforting and uplifting book aims to help readers become more aware of what is in front of them and who they are up against so that they can give their best to the people they care about.

Linda is a holistic health practitioner, author, speaker, trainer/educator and massage therapist specializing in the elderly and people with disabilities. She brings decades of experience working with people with developmental disabilities and mental health issues to serve an aging population. These groups share similar problems.

Linda is a baby boomer herself. Ideas were drawn from personal health issues and from working with his clients. She used the methods found for herself to help others. The observation and assessment of attitudes, environments and special needs are at the heart of his work.

As a massage therapy specialist, she can feel and see much of the body and draw attention to things like suspicious moles, bumps, etc. Massage therapists are one of the last professions to actually take the time to observe often overlooked skin, feet, posture, contractures, imbalances, etc. She educates on canes, walkers, crutches and wheelchairs for proper selection.

Her Masters in Counseling Psychology enhances understanding of the various challenges that mature adults face. Linda’s unique perspective comes from her experiences. She rose through the ranks from direct care worker to administrator of two group homes.

Then came her time as a federal advocate for people with developmental disabilities in Hawaii, where she and Hawaii gained knowledge that served her clients even after she left. Other experiences included time spent as a mental health worker, teacher and teaching assistant in a public hospital.

Linda has partnered with Massage Inc., a growing massage company, where her book will become required reading for their therapists in 2022 and beyond. The Parkinson’s Resource Organization (PRO) has also called on her skills and expertise to educate its members in 2022. She writes for iPain magazine and PRO. And the National Holistic Institute, California’s largest and oldest chain of massage schools, used her for Zoom training and promoted her book to its students.
