After a hat-trick from the Nigerian striker Victor Boniface at Aspmyra Stadion last week, Bodo/Glimt take an almost unassailable lead to the Faroe Islands on Tuesday.

Having had a major impact in continental competition by causing endless trouble for Jose Mourinho‘s Roma last season – and knocking out Scottish champions Celtic – Glimt is now aiming for a place in the Champions League group stage for the first time.

Kjetil KnutsenThe team won the Norwegian top flight for only the second time last year, finishing top of the Eliteserien with 63 points and qualifying for another shot in Europe’s top club competition.

Located in the Arctic Circle, Glimt already has 13 appearances in defense of his home crown and is third in the standings after Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Sarpsborg – Boniface scoring twice in the second half.

Eight points behind league leaders Lillestrom, Den Gule Horde will be keen to complete the formalities of European progression at KI’s Djupumyra Stadium this week, having lost to Legia Warsaw at this stage last year.

By contrast, KI’s hopes of making the next round hang by a thread as the hosts face a three-goal deficit to overthrow in Klaksvik.

The Faroese champions entered their Champions League campaign after a 4-2 league win over NSI at the end of June – posting their fourth straight victory in the process – but received a tough lesson in Norway last week.

Mikkjal ThomassenThe team are currently top of the Faroe Islands Premier League table – with 43 points from 15 appearances – and have already scored 41 goals, so they are used to scoring freely at a lower level.

KI dropped out in last season’s Europa Conference League first qualifying round but reached the second stage of the 2020-21 Champions League qualifying process before losing to Young Boys of Switzerland.

Having lost six and won just one of their last seven Champions League matches, the odds are certainly stacked against them to pull off a remarkable comeback on Tuesday.

Team News

Bodo/Glimt are sure to capitalize on the searing form of striker Victor Boniface, who has scored five times in his last two appearances, so the 21-year-old should lead the line in a top three for the visitors.

At his side in front, Amahl Pellegrino has found the net eight times in the league this season, with Ola Solbakken should occupy the third slot of attack.

Both were top scorers in the premier Europa Conference League last season, and they will feature in a XI largely unchanged from last week’s first leg.

Meanwhile, KI is likely to face his opponents in a 4-3-3 formation, with Pall Klettskaro from centre-forward. The former Faroe Islands international has been prolific domestically this season, scoring 10 times in 14 league appearances.

Once again, Jakup Andreasen captain of the central midfield team, while the Danish goalkeeper Mathias Rosenorn provides the last line of defense for hosts.

Possible starting lineup of KI Klaksvik:
Rosenorn; Pavlovic, Vatnsdal, Brinck, Da Silva; R. Joensen, Bjartalio, J. Andreasen; Mikklesen, Klettskaro, Sabala

Possible starting composition Bodo/Glimt:
Haikin; Sampsted, Moe, Hoibraten, Wembangomo; Vetlesen, Hagen, Saltnes; Solbakken, Boniface, Pellegrino

We say: KI Klaksvik 1-2 Bodo/Glimt (Bodo/Glimt win 5-1 on aggregate)

Perhaps taking their foot off the pedal in the second half, if they still hold a sizeable advantage, Bodo/Glimt could be limited to a one-goal margin of victory.

Their greater ability and recent European experience, however, should prove enough to secure successive victories over KI, who are ill-equipped to compete at this level.
