The £30million striker is ‘top of Moyes’ list’ at the London Stadium

West Ham target Armando Broja is ‘pretty high’ on David Moyes’ list of strikers he wants to sign, journalist claims Pete O’Rourke.

The Hammers boss has been desperate for more options up front for some time and the Chelsea star could improve his squad’s depth.

What’s the latest on Broja?

After his impressive loan spell at Southampton last season, West Ham are interested in trying to convince the 20-year-old to move on to London.

GiveMeSport The Verdict

According sky sportsthe Hammers are expected to make a bid of around £30million for Broja, who has been identified as the club’s ‘top attacking target’.

Broja, 6-foot-3, scored new goals in 39 appearances for Saints last season, including one against West Ham in the FA Cup, in what was his first real taste of English football.

Southampton were hoping to convince him to return to the club for another year, but the Hammers’ seventh-place finish means they can offer him European football, albeit the third-tier Europa Conference League.

What did O’Rourke say about Broja?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “He seems quite high on West Ham’s list at the moment, Armando Broja.

“He obviously had a very good season on loan at Southampton and I think David Moyes would prefer to sign players with Premier League experience if possible, he likes players who are happy to adapt to the Premier League and who can start and Broja is someone with huge potential as he showed during his loan spell at Southampton.

Would Broja be West Ham’s first-choice striker?

If West Ham pay around £30million for Broja, the Albania international will enter their top five the most expensive signings, but that doesn’t mean he’ll necessarily go straight into Moyes’ best XI.

We’ve seen in recent seasons, Said Benrahma in particular, that price tags aren’t the deciding factor when it comes to being picked.

Following the arrival of Benrahma at the start of the 2020-2021 season, he found himself on the bench for the first five games and had to show his worth before earning a starting spot.

And with Michail Antonio, who was one of West Ham’s most productive attacking players last season with 24 goalscoring contributions, still firmly in Moyes’ plans, Broja may need to prove himself before he gets ahead of him in the pecking order.

But the Conference League should give him the perfect chance to get some form early in the season and show Moyes what he’s capable of.
